Work Profile

The Quality Engineer is responsible for leading and maintaining all required automotive industry quality compliance procedures. Additionally, the Quality Engineer acts as a liaison with suppliers and customers relating to quality requests and testing processes.



Responsibilities of the Quality Engineer include

  • Assist quality manager to develop, implement and maintain the Quality and Environment Management System.
  • Monitor and assist manufacturing in process control and development. Collect, review, and react to data collected within the manufacturing process per the control plan. Ensure the update and maintenance of the capability studies (SPC data collection). Support continuous improvement efforts.


  • Participate in cross-functional teams in the development of new products or changes related to current products in meeting customer requirements.
  • Participate in the development and refinement of Process FMEAs (Failure Mode and Effects Analysis). Support in risk and failure analysis of Design FMEAs.
  • Participate in the functional safety management activities during all project phases (concept, product, development, production) including preliminary hazard & risk analysis, safety plan, qualitative and quantitative fault tree analysis (DFMEA, FMEDA, FTA), verification, validation, and perform FS process audits during development
  • Write product inspection/testing procedures and/or work instructions.
  • Approve and ensure quality documentation for the assigned workflows are implemented effectively and maintained such as control plans, work instructions, boundary samples, rework/inspection instructions, etc.
  • Assist with training of quality awareness.
  • Quality control of work by appropriate reviews.
  • Liaison with the different suppliers and customers. Primary contact source with customer and supplier representatives, maintain positive communication and relationship, support and attend meetings, reviews, and audits.
  • Manage all quality-related issues within the manufacturing team (e. g. internal, supplier, customer, and customer warranty).
  • Support and implement the product quality and quality processes (block/release parts, manage blacklist) together with the rest of the team.
  • Has the authority and the responsibility to stop any process or product delivery in case of a non-conformance of customer expectations, safety, or environmental risks.
  • Lead problem-solving teams: use of QA methodologies to manage and facilitate issue resolution including root cause investigations and the development, implementation and monitoring of effective corrective and preventive actions.
  • Lead/perform product containment activities and arrange for disposition.
  • Manage rework and scrapping of NOK products.
  • Create and follow up rejections towards suppliers.
  • Supplier 8D review and preparation towards the customer.
  • Audit manufacturing line against released manufacturing processes and procedures. Participate in internal and external quality audits, and report to management on quality issues, trends, and losses.
  • Perform supplier audits.
  • Establish quality performance metrics. Monitor and report on quality-related key performance indicators (KPIs) to adhere to process and prevent occurrence of any non-conformity relating to product, process, or system, including scrap monitoring, rework levels, parts per million (PPM) figures.
  • Support and generate continuous improvement ideas and work on cost reduction projects. Lead, coordinate, and support the continuous improvement process by analysing the results of the processes to define and coordinate with the team the necessary improvement actions (e.g. customer complaints, supplier rejections, results of internal and external audits, accidents, etc.)
  • Support quality/dimensional control systems (i.e., X&R charts, gage studies, Six Sigma, dimensional capability studies)
  • Assist inthe approval of first samples and suppliers/external providers.
  • Coordinate change management process with engineering team.

Requirements

Qualifications and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering, or equivalent work experience in quality or engineering related functions.
  • 5+ years of experience as a quality professional in an automotive manufacturing plant. Experience working within semiconductor manufacturing processes is a plus.
  • Solid background in IATF 16949, VDA and ISO 14001.
  • Strong knowledge of automotive quality processes and core tools (APQP, Process Flow, FMEA, Control Plan, PPAP, MSA, SPC, 8D).Training and demonstrated success in applying quality problem solving methods such as fishbone diagrams, three legged 5 Why, etc.
  • Auditing experience preferred. IATF 16949 Auditor / VDA 6.3 Process Auditor Certification is a plus.
  • Knowledge of automotive qualification (e.g. AEC-Q100) is a plus.
  • Knowledge of functional safety ISO 26262 is a plus.
  • ISO 14001 auditor certification is a plus.
  • Training in environmental, and safety management and experience with industry and statutory requirements on EHS is a plus.
